La pittura del Futurismo

Pittura

The painting

Detaching themselves completely from traditional painting, the Futurist painters introduced a new dimension of pictorial art. The Futurists observed that when traveling over land—on horseback, by automobile, or by train—plants, houses, and other objects appear to hurl themselves toward us. Nearby objects spin past at great speed, while those farther away move more slowly, forming a dynamic wheel within a horizon framed by mountains, sea, hills, and lakes. This entire frame moves as well, but so slowly that it seems motionless. Beyond it, our eyes still perceive the horizontal continuity of the ground over which we travel.
At aerial speeds, however, both this continuity and the panoramic frame disappear. As the airplane glides, dives, and climbs, it becomes an ideal, hypersensitive observation post suspended anywhere in the infinite. This experience is made even more dynamic by our awareness of motion itself, which transforms the value and rhythm of every minute and every second of visual sensation. Time and space are shattered by the sudden, lightning-like realization that the earth is racing beneath an airplane that seems perfectly still.
